Next generation configuration requirements are an area of active
research by both HP and SoI through their SmartFrog and LCFG research
activities respectively. LCFG has already been deployed by the fabric
management workpackage of the EU DataGrid project and a number of
lessons have already been learned through this process. The aim of this
workpackage is to look beyond the current state of the art and tackle
the fabric management step change which we contend occurs as fabrics
extend beyond 1,000 systems to 10,000 or even 100,000. This is
intended to be a requirements overview exercise to arrive at a
`first-order' requirements set.
The understanding developed here will feed directly into Workpackage 3.
